Provides Relationship Therapy and Individual Therapy

Tanya Avery, LAMFT

I am a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT) with over 20 years in the field of counseling and social services. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation from Morris Brown College and later a Masters of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy from Capella University. I also am a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist and have a Certificate in Addictive Behavioral Therapies.

Throughout my 20+ years of service and counseling, I have worked with a variety of populations and gained experience working with a number of issues. I embrace several styles of therapy to meet clients where they are in their current state of mind and being. The approaches I use most often in therapy are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused and Emotionally Focused Therapy. All are client-centered and used to focus on the change clients want to achieve during therapy.

I feel called and led to specialize in serving Individuals, Couples, and Families in conflict who struggle with communication, parenting, trauma, grief, and addiction; with the goal of helping them to manage challenges such as anxiety, depression, anger, and impulse behaviors. I also assist parents to develop strategies to change problem behaviors and improve parent-child communication.

I enjoy being a part of a person and/or families’ journey to wholeness, healthy behaviors, and renewed relationships. The goal is to help clients be authentic and true to themselves as well as those who are in close, intimate, and familial relationships.
