Emotional Support Animal Evaluations & Letter
If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or another mental health condition, an emotional support animal (ESA) can provide comfort, companionship, and a sense of security. We offer thorough ESA evaluations and, when appropriate, ESA letters that meet federal and state requirements.
What Is an Emotional Support Animal (ESA)?
An ESA is a pet that provides emotional support and comfort to an individual diagnosed with a mental or emotional disability. Unlike service animals, ESAs are not trained for specific tasks but are protected under certain housing and air travel laws when accompanied by proper documentation.
If you believe an ESA may be a helpful part of your mental health care, we invite you to complete an ESA request form. If you are a current client, please discuss an ESA with your clinician.
Important Things to Know
ESA letters are for housing purposes only and do not guarantee travel accommodations or public access.
We do not issue letters after a single session or on request alone—an evaluation is required.
We adhere to the Fair Housing Act.
Letters are valid for 12 months and can be renewed with an updated evaluation.
We follow a thorough and ethical evaluation process to ensure ESA letters are issued only when clinically appropriate.
Evaluations are $275 ($325 with letter of recommendation) and billed at an out of pocket cost (no insurance billing for this service) and include:
✔ Comprehensive clinical assessment (Two 50 minute sessions)
✔ Screening tools and symptom measures✔ Clear explanation of ESA protections and limitations
✔ Letter of recommendation (if clinically appropriate)
Who Qualifies for an ESA Letter?
You may be eligible for an ESA letter if:
You are experiencing a mental health condition (such as anxiety, PTSD, depression, or panic disorder) that significantly impacts your daily functioning
An animal provides emotional relief or grounding that reduces the severity of your symptoms
A qualified mental health professional must determine that an ESA would provide meaningful support in managing your symptoms.
